The new sixth-generation 5 Series BMW, this time designed by Adrian van Hooydonk, has become a bit more traditional than its E60 predecessor. The design of the car has become more BMW, extremely refined and got rid of the controversial rear end design. The embossed bonnet, the steep shape of the front end and the bright line running across the side, the design of the taillights is reminiscent of the design solutions of the Class 7 and 5 Series Gran Turismo cars that have appeared on the market a bit earlier. Inside, the BMW 5 exudes true luxury with a new, fourth-generation iDrive system. Cars with a navigation system will be equipped with a 10.2-inch diagonal LCD screen, and without it - 7-inch. What is striking about the interior is the fact that BMW designers have returned to the previously extremely frequently used instrument panel, which is turned to the driver. The design of both the door and the front panel has become a bit more conventional and not as extravagant as its predecessor. Obviously, the designers have returned to the long-proven truths of the BMW style, but the car has become obviously more conventional and less fun. The car has also become noticeably larger - it is 13 mm wider and 5 mm lower compared to the previous generation. Indeed, the new BMW 5 is built on a modified platform of the great BMW 7. The car has an aluminum construction double lever front axle, and variants with all-wheel drive are also available. BMW 5 buyers will be able to choose from four petrol 523i, 528i, 535i and 550i, as well as three diesel 520d, 525d, 530d engines. The engine range is again dominated by traditional BMW linear 6-cylinder engines. The weakest petrol engine develops 204 hp at 6,100 rpm and 270 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,250 rpm, 100 km / h in 7.9 s, top speed of 238 km / h, average fuel consumption of 7 km / h. , 6 l / 100 km. The most powerful petrol engine is a 4.4-liter V8 with dual turbine and direct injection, developing 407 hp between 5500 and 6400 rpm. and a maximum torque of 600 Nm from 1750 to 4500 rpm, and reaches 100 km / h in just 5 s, the average fuel consumption is impressively low - only 10.4 l / 100 km. The smallest engine is a 2.0-liter diesel 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit with 184 hp at 4,000 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,900 to 2,750 rpm, reaching 100 km / h in 8.1 s, top speed - 227 km / h, average fuel consumption - 5.0 l / 100 km. The most powerful diesel engine is a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbocharged unit with common rail injection that reaches 245 hp at 4,000 rpm. and 540 Nm at 1750-3000 rpm, 100 km / h - 6.3 s, maximum speed - 250 km / h, average fuel consumption - 6.3 l / 100 km.
