The BMW X5 is described as a SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) rather than an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), emphasizing not off-road capabilities but the car’s excellent performance on asphalt. A special M X5 SUV with impressive data is designed to keep even the most stubborn race car fans running out of power. The car has a twin-turbocharged BMW N63 engine version with 554 hp (408 kW) / 6000 rpm and 680 Nm / 1500-5650 rpm of torque. Other improvements include a 6-speed sports M automatic transmission with aluminum shift levers behind the steering wheel, 10 mm lower adaptive suspension, 4 piston brakes, 20-inch rims with 275 / 40R20 and 315 / 35R20 front low profile tires, large air vents in the front bumper.
In the sprint from 0 to 97 km / h, this BMW accelerates in 4.0 seconds, 400m in 12.5 seconds and reaches 180.2 km / h (Car and Driver magazine testing). This is a better result than rivals the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 and Range Rover Sport Supercharged. On wet asphalt, the M X5 also overtaken the Audi Q7 V12 TD.

The BMW M X5 has the largest brakes of any series-produced BMW, 395x36mm at the front and 385x24mm at the rear.
