The Ferrari F355 is a sports two-seater that replaced the Ferrari 348 model. It was an evolutionary model with a right-hand-mounted V8 engine. Like its predecessor and later followers, this is a fairly common Ferrari model. The engine capacity was slightly increased from 3.4 to 3.5 L. The biggest innovation was that 5 valves per cylinder were designed. Several models were produced: the Berlinetta coupe, the tarpaulin GTS and the convertible Spider. In 1998, an innovation was introduced - F1-style gearshift levers behind the steering wheel. A special version of the F355 Challenge was also produced, which was designed for Ferrari ring races and had sports seats, a spoiler and a safety frame, but the engine remained the same. 109 Challenge units were produced.
The 1997 version of the Ferrari F355 Berlinetta became the first road car in the world to receive F1 transmission control when the gears are shifted by levers behind the steering wheel.

The name '355' is encrypted as follows: the first two digits represent the engine capacity in liters (3.5) and the last digit represents the number of valves per cylinder (5).

The Ferrari F355 Challenge version was used as the base car for Ferrari's own racing series called the Ferrari Challenge.
