The Lexus RZ is a compact electric SUV from the Lexus company. The car is built on the e-TNGA platform, which is also used in Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra electric cars. It is the first Lexus-branded car designed exclusively as an electric car, although the UX 300e electric car was already in production, only this one was based on the petrol UX model. The new Lexus RZ 450e brings some smart technologies to the electric car sector, such as a steer-by-wire control system. Named "One Motion Grip", this electronic control system is one of the most important new technologies applied for the first time in the Lexus RZ model. Now the steering mechanism has no mechanical connections between the steering wheel and the wheels. Instead, an electric system is used, which transmits the signal from the steering wheel directly to the front wheels. This ensures extremely fast reaction to turning the steering wheel and more precise control of the car. This eliminates the need for a conventional steering wheel, so One Motion Grip models have a "computer" style steering wheel/joystick instead of a classic steering wheel. The system can vary the sensitivity of the steering wheel, and it only takes a 150-degree turn to go from one extreme position to the other, so you'll never have to cross or take your hands off this steering wheel. The advantages of the system are that when driving on an uneven surface, the steering wheel will turn less to both sides, and it will be easier to adjust the driving trajectory in strong gusts of wind. Of course, not everyone will like this system, because the feedback with the road will definitely not be so good. On the other hand, is this connection so important if you operate the SUV mainly in the city, where you need maneuverability and easy control of the car. The Lexus RZ has a 71.4 kWh battery integrated into the floor, which allows you to travel more than 400 km from a full charge. Only all-wheel drive versions are produced - the front-mounted engine generates 201 hp, and the rear engine generates 108 hp. The RZ is the first production model to feature the Toyota/Lexus engineering solution "e-Axle". It is an extremely compact package of the most important units installed between the driving wheels, which consists of an electric motor, a reducer and a control unit. The same design is used front and rear, and both electric axles connect to a Direct4 all-wheel drive system.
