Mercedes-Benz SL Class, 2008 - 2012
The Mercedes-Benz SL was refurbished in 2008, but not much has changed. The biggest changes are visible on the front, and a new Mercedes design philosophy is evident here - more angled headlights of more complex shape, two protrusions running along the bonnet and radiator grille with one redistribution instead of three. The car looks really more aggressive. The engines have also been upgraded - the 3.5L V6 now has 311 hp (229 kW) / 6500 rpm - which is 16 per cent more than the old engine, and 360 Nm instead of 350 Nm of torque. The new weakest variant, the SL 280 with 170 kW (231 hp) and a torque of 300 Nm / 2500 rpm, which accelerates the convertible from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.8 seconds, was also introduced. The most powerful is, of course, the AMG variant with the new M156 6.2 L V8 engine, 525 hp (386 kW) / 6800 rpm and 630 Nm / 5200 rpm, acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.6 seconds. A modified version of the SL 63 was used as a safety car in the 2008 Formula 1 season. An even more powerful version of the SL65 AMG with a V12 engine with 670 hp (500 kW) and an incredible 1000 Nm of torque is now available. In the interior - extremely comfortable chairs, maximum comfort surrounded by wood inlays, leather and the latest technology. However, the car is not a real sports car - it is heavy, has a lot of extra comfort equipment and, although not badly controlled, cannot match Porsche. In conclusion, the SL class continues to be one of the undisputed prestigious leaders in the GT class.
