The second-generation Primera changed very little externally, but it got a multi-link suspension both front and rear that was unique in this class. The car was made with sedan, hatchback and station wagon bodies. In Europe, the Primera was delivered with 1.6 L and 2.0 L petrol engines and 2.0 L diesel. In 1999, Nissan upgraded the Primera to provide more modern new headlights with clear glass and the new wing-shaped radiator grille promoted by Nissan. It is worth mentioning that Nissan Primera successfully participated in the British Touring Car Championship, where the team won the manufacturers' championship in 1998 and 1999, as well as a second place in the racing standings.
