1998 The R34 was introduced in May, making the car not only sportier but also more economical and environmentally friendly. The R34 with a 2-liter RB20DE NEO engine combined with a 5-speed gearbox has become the most economical Nissan car with a linear 6-cylinder engine. Production of the 5-speed gearbox was discontinued, but a new Nissan 4-speed Tiptronic gearbox was introduced. The GT-R reappeared in 1999 with a new chassis and other upgrades. The R34 turbines have a central bearing section, using stronger six-speed Getrag gearboxes. GT-R data: 2.6 L RB26DETT dual turbine I6 engine with 332 hp (244 kW) and 392 Nm of torque. The R34 road monster is also known for its ability to squeeze 1000 hp from a small 2.6-liter engine!
