34 years later, the air-cooled 911 went out of production and was replaced by a new water-cooled model. It was a huge leap forward, although many of the traits that made the 911 what it was all 34 years have remained in the new model. However, this 911 has been criticized for its design, in part because the headlights and front end were shared with the less expensive Boxster. Although the 911 was designed above, the cost-cutting program had to share parts with the younger brother. The interior, although extremely luxurious, was also not distinctive, simple, and detached from the 911 philosophy. In 2002, the Carrera and Carrera 4 still received new headlights, already seen in the Turbo version released a few years earlier.

This is the first 911 model with a water-cooled engine.
