In late 2000, after nearly seven years of production, the first-generation Laguna was replaced by a second that shared its chassis with the Nissan Primera. The new Laguna is widely regarded as one of the safest cars in Europe. It is the first car in Europe to be rated 5 stars in EuroNCAP crash tests. The new lagoon has a keyless engine start system - instead of a key, a credit card similar to the one used in the Scenic and Espace models is used. In March 2005, the Laguna was slightly refurbished to become even safer, better managed and more comfortable. The new front grille has become more similar to the ones the Megane has. The Laguna has also been produced with diesel engines, one of which is the all-new 2.0 L dCi engine with 150 hp (112 kW) or 175 hp (130 kW). It was the most powerful 2-liter diesel engine in the world in 2007.
