The Renault Scenic is a compact minivan, the first of its kind in Europe. It became the 1996 European Car. The scenic is mechanically identical to the Megane hatchback. This model was aimed at those who wanted a one-of-a-kind practicality but couldn’t afford the larger and much more expensive very popular and well-known Renault Espace. Renault did not evaluate the prospects of the Scenic - it was planned to be a niche model with a production of 450 units per day. The reality turned out to be that up to almost 2,500 cars were produced in a day. Thus, with the Scenic model, Renault has discovered a new market segment - the market for compact MPVs. This success was not overlooked and was quickly copied by other manufacturers.
