Subaru Legacy, 2019 - present
The seventh-generation Legacy debuted at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. Unlike previous generations, the seventh-generation Legacy will no longer be sold in Japan and Australia due to disappointing predecessor sales. The new Legacy model is built on the new Subaru Global Platform (SGP), which is more robust than the previous generation Legacy platform. Still, the exterior design style of the new model is similar to the previous generation model, although the headlights and taillights have been slightly modified. The upgraded cabin now features an 11.6-inch touchscreen on all versions of the model, a base model with two 7-inch screens. These are very small and disappointing changes that will not strictly restore the glory of the former Legacy models. On the other hand, many competitors also don’t pay much attention to the midsize sedan or have stopped production altogether - such as the Honda Accord, Ford Mondeo, Kia Optima, Mazda 6 and Toyota Avensis. Now manufacturers have to focus on what’s in demand - it’s crossovers, or the future - and that’s electric cars again, mostly with a crossover body. The most significant mechanical changes to the new Legacy are the upgraded base FB25 engine and the turbocharged 2.4-liter FA24 boxer four-cylinder engine, which replaces the previous 3.6-liter EZ36 boxer with a six-cylinder engine.
