Introduced in 1987, the Toyota Corolla was already a sixth-generation model to choose from in several bodies - a 4-door sedan, a 3- and 5-door hatchback, a coupe and a station wagon. The new model was extremely similar to its predecessor only slightly more rounded and aerodynamic. Most Corolla versions were now powered by front wheels, along with several AWD All-Trac versions. The car was equipped with a wide range of engines, from the 1.3-liter to the most powerful 123 kW (165 hp) turbo engine. The Toyota Corolla became the 1988 Irish Car of the Year.
