The well-designed rear-wheel drive Toyota GT-86 is designed to entice younger buyers to pay close attention to the image and delicate features of the car, such as weight balance and cornering behavior. The GT-86 was developed in conjunction with Subaru, which also introduced a similar Subaru BRZ model. These cars are designed to resemble the old legendary, small, not very powerful, but perfectly manageable Toyota Corolla with AE86 body or Toyota Celica cars. These small coupes are designed to compete with today’s VW Scirocco or Audi TT and are positioned slightly lower than, say, the Nissan 370Z. Koger's biggest trump card, the GT-86, is a great design with a long wavy hood line and a short trunk. The difference between the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86 is minimal - only with the headlights and radiator grille. Inside, the cars give a slightly different impression - the space is not distinguished, the design of the instrument panel is fuzzy, the details are rough, and the materials used are really unattractive in terms of quality. Obviously, the non-interior manufacturer tried to impress. The car's behavior in extreme driving conditions is where the Toyota GT-86 rocks. The small coupe was designed as a light (only 1250 kg), manoeuvrable, dynamic and braked car - and at the heart of it all is the driver himself. The 200 hp 2.0-liter high-speed (up to 7,000 rpm) boxer-type engine is mounted very low to minimize center of gravity and retracted as close to the center as possible to achieve good weight balance (53% by weight for the front axle and 47% for the rear). Therefore, sitting behind the wheel and waving at the rear of the car cannot be without a smile on your face. True, engine power is very limited, and at low speeds there is also a lack of torque. The rear seats will fit a few bags faster than a few people, and the trunk is small at just 243 liters (50 liters less than an Audi TT of the same size). So this car will not impress with its power, acceleration, exceptional design, comfort or the like. So maybe the BRZ and GT 86 are just a manufacturer's mistake? The manufacturers claim otherwise - light weight, short base and limited slip differential (LSD) will give a dose of adrenaline like no other car at a similar price.
2012 On May 19, GAZOO Racing and Toyota Swiss Racing joined the ADAC 24-hour Nürburgring, where GAZOO Racing won SP3 with Toyota 86 and Toyota Swiss Racing won V3. In both classes, only extremely close-to-series cars were used.
