Many claim that this car was inspired by the Porsche Boxster, which was released in 1996. The engine of the new MR2 was a brand new all-aluminum 1.8 L I4. Like its predecessors, the engine had two top shafts and 16 valves, used the VVT-i system and achieved a not-so-impressive 138 hp (104 kW), but because the car was very light it could accelerate fairly well from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.5 s. The car weighs just 975 kg with a 5-speed manual transmission and is the lightest of all MR cars, plus it is the coger’s best-controlled. As many complained of underpowering, there were amateurs who could easily power up to 180 hp which drastically affected the car’s dynamic performance. Testing has shown that the MR2 outperforms chains such as the S15 Silvia, S14 Silvia and Honda S2000 in its handling characteristics, but loses in straight sections. The car is loved for its fun to drive, cornering ability, distinctive looks and Toyota reliability. Cons - almost non-existent trunk, awkward on long trips and can be dangerous on snow.
