The Audi A2 is a small monovolume that has outperformed many of its solutions. The car has a very aerodynamic, distinctive design with clear links to the Audi TT. However, not everyone accepted this avant-garde style favorably, and this can be seen in the car's sales figures - it was significantly outperformed by its direct competitor Mercedes-Benz A-Class. But thanks to the owners, the A2 is a practical car and is the first five-door car in Europe with an average fuel consumption of less than 3 L / 100 km (these figures are only available with a special 3L version with diesel engines and narrower tires). The Audi A2 won the Scandinavian EcoRun economy race, in which the car consumed only 2.62 L / 100 km! The A2 is made of aluminum, making it extremely light (a car with standard equipment weighs only 895 kg), which is a big advantage because the car is more economical, easier to operate, more dynamic, and so on. However, the aluminum used makes the car much more expensive than its competitors. The A2 is also the first Audi model since the 1970s Audi 50 that does not have a four-wheel drive quattro system. The A2 has a three-dimensional frame called a “sandwich” similar to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. In the event of a frontal impact, the car’s engine and gearbox sink under the floor, not into the passenger compartment. Arguably, the aluminum A8 and A2 models have paved the way for the next aluminum cars, the Audi TT, Jaguar XJ and Jaguar XK.
