The Audi 80/90 series was updated in 1992 and became known as the Audi 80 B4. The body of the station wagon was also introduced, the car's wheelbase was lengthened, a new fuel tank, rear axle, folding rear seats were installed, clearer wheel arches on the outside, new rear and front bumpers, as well as higher quality materials in the interior. The front grille was connected to the hood and acquired Audi’s characteristic aggressive front look. With the introduction of the B4, Audi has clearly entered the German luxury car market, where Mercedes-Benz and BMW have undoubtedly reigned. In Europe, the B4 and its variants were extremely popular. The engines were both 4-cylinder and the already familiar I5, as well as the two new V6s (2.6 L and 2.8 L). For the first time, a new high-torque direct-injection 1.9 L TDI turbodiesel with 90 hp was introduced. All petrol versions could be ordered with a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.
