The Audi R8 is a mid-size sports car with a center-mounted engine and is built on a Lamborghini Gallardo platform. The R8 has a 4.2 L FSI V8 engine with 420 hp (309 kW) and 430 Nm of torque, the same as the Audi RS4. Because Audi AG owns the Lamborghini company, 15% of the R8 parts are shared with the Lamborghini Gallardo - the cars have common components in the transmission and chassis. The R8 has an exceptional design that is unlike any sports car ever created. The Audi R8 produces 70 employees and only 15 cars are assembled per day. It is the only car in the world to pass a computed tomography scan in which ninety-five lasers scan the entire car in 5 seconds and measure 220 dimensions to be 0.1mm accurate. The media praised the car as a potential competitor to the Porsche 911 and the best sports car in its class. Initial comparison tests have shown that the car deserves the name of a "supercar" and, compared to the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and BMW M6 has excellent stability, cornering behavior, easy handling and is a better sports car than its competitors. The Top Gear R8 was compared to the Nissan GT-R. It was noted that although Audi is not as impressive and fast as the Japanese, it is more engaging in the driving process itself, a quality and excellent sports car. On the Top Gear test track, the R8 managed to overtake opponents such as the Lamborghini Gallardo and Aston Martin DB9.
