BMW 6 Series, 1976 - 1989
The BMW E24 is the first model of the now extremely popular BMW Six Series Sport GT (Grand Tourer). The E24 has replaced the remarkably elegant BMW E9 Coupe. Although the new BMW Coupe model was stylistically similar to its predecessor, it looked much rougher - the body became less soft than the E9, the struts became thicker and the middle side window struts were restored. However, it is now safe to say that not only the E9 but also the E24 has stood the test of time - a remarkably beautiful BMW with classic features. Perhaps this is why the sixth BMW has been in production for a very long time, from 1976 to 1989, when it seemed really outdated. At the time, an impressive BMW 850 appeared on the scene, replacing the BMW 6 Series. But that’s another story. The BMW E24 was produced with the legendary six-cylinder M30 petrol engines. These engines are named as one of the best internal combustion engines ever produced to tolerate high revs and are extremely reliable if well maintained. True, they lacked a bit of power compared to the most powerful competitors such as the Jaguar XJ-S and Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC. As a result, a version of the 635CSi with 215 hp was introduced in 1979, and even later the most powerful version of the M635CSi with 282 hp with the M88 engine, also known as the M6. The gearboxes, depending on the year of manufacture and model, were four- or five-speed manual or three- or four-speed automatic.
