The BMW M5 is the most powerful version of the popular 5 Series with a sedan body. Unlike its predecessors, the E39 M5 was not assembled at the BMW M GmbH plant, but was produced on the same line as the usual E39 5 series. In fact, the E39 M5 was not planned to be produced, as BMW thought the 540i model with 286 hp would suffice, but when Jaguar introduced the XJR (320 hp) and the Mercedes-Benz W210 E55 with 350 hp, then BMW developed the M5 E39 version with a 4.9 L V8 engine. with a power output of 400 hp (294 kW). The car’s engine loves high revs - the red limit starts at just 7,000 rpm. The E39 M5 can accelerate to 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds, although less than the 5-second limit was reached during testing. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 249 km / h. With such data at the time, it was the fastest 4-door sedan in the world. The M5's suspension is made of aluminum MacPherson and is multi-lever like the usual V8 E39, but the M unit has worked here too - the suspension is 23 mm lowered and is "sharper". The M5 remains one of the best-managed sedans with the perfect combination of power, luxury and attention to detail. The car is almost perfect, can the next M5 be even better?
