The prototype Z07 was designed in honor of the 1956-59 BMW 507 model. The Z07 caused a sensation at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, so it was released into series production and named the Z8. The car has an aluminum chassis and body, a 4.9 L 32-valve V8 engine with 400 hp (294 kW) and 500 Nm of torque. This engine is developed by the BMW M unit and is used in the BMW E39 M5. The engine was mounted behind the front axle to give the car a 50/50 weight distribution. The factory claims that the Z8 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds, although a better test result of 4.2 seconds. The maximum speed of the car after removing the limiter is 300 km / h. Car and Driver magazine compared the Z8 to its rival Ferrari 360 Modena in three important categories: acceleration, handling and braking. Z8 won in all categories. The great interior of the car is truly original - a group of technical displays is fitted in the center so as not to interfere with tracking the road ahead, and the steering wheel is three-spoke with retro-style chrome bars. The car starred in James Bond’s film The World Is Not Enough as Agent 007’s car. Other BMW models have also starred in the 007 series, with GoldenEye in 1995 with the BMW Z3 and Tomorrow Never Die in 1997 with the BMW 750iL.
