Compared to the fifth generation, the C6 has a newly designed suspension, a new body that, while not very different from the C5, has become a bit more "muscular". The body also features new open-type headlights (for the first time since 1962), a larger passenger compartment, and a larger 6.0-liter engine. In summary, the car has become more sophisticated. The new C6 became 13 cm shorter than the C5, but its wheelbase increased by 3 cm. The car also narrowed to 2.5 cm. Chevrolet hopes the new project will attract more buyers who prefer European cars such as the Porsche 911. It should be noted that the “hottest” version of the ZR1 was also produced, with a 6.2-liter LS9 V8 turbo engine with 620 hp (460 kW) capable of reaching 320 km / h. It’s the fastest Corvette ever made, using the highest technology in both suspension and weight reduction.
An extremely powerful version of the ZR1 was produced, with a 6.2-liter LS9 V8 turbo engine with 620 hp (460 kW) capable of reaching 320 km / h. This is the fastest Corvette ever produced.

The Z06 version was used as a safety car in the 2006 Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500 races.

The ZR1 version beat the famous Nordschleife ring in 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds, making it one of the fastest production cars that just beat this ring. This result was later improved: in 2011 it reached a great time of 7: 19.63 and became the fifth fastest serial car of all time in this ring.

The impressive version of the ZR1 has been awarded a number of awards:
  • Car of the Year and Sports Car of the Year (Top Gear Show) 2009;
  • Best New Car (About.com) 2009;
  • Car and Driver magazine selected the Corvette as many as 15 times among the top ten cars of the year: C4 from 1985 to 1989, C5 from 1998, 1999 and from 2002 to 2004, and C6 from 2005 to 2009.
