The Citroen Xantia is a mid-range family car that has sold more than 1.2 million in 8 years of production. The Xantia design is created by the Italian company Bertone. The car replaced the Citroen BX model and became much more modern to compete with models such as the Ford Mondeo, Nissan Primera, Rover 400, Toyota Carina E and Opel Vectra. The Xantia was produced as a hatchback and station wagon and stood out from the conservative Ford Mondeo or Opel Vectra, but Xantia's sales, while not bad, did not outperform the models. From an engineering point of view, the biggest advantage of the Xantia is its suspension. More expensive models were produced with the advanced XM model Hydractive computer-controlled hydropneumatic suspension. This suspension provides a very comfortable ride under normal conditions, but at the same time controls the stiffness of the suspension during braking, acceleration or cornering. This system is also called active suspension. In addition, the Xantia had rear-wheel drive - like some Japanese models.
