The Ferrari GTO or Ferrari 288 GTO is a homologated version of the “regular” Ferrari 308 GTB, so the two cars are very similar although technically they are very different. In the name of the car, the letters "GT" of course mean "Gran Turismo" and the letter "O" means "Omologata" (Italian homologated). Ferrari fans know that the Italian manufacturer doesn’t give anyone the name “GTO”. These are usually almost ready-to-race sports cars with little production, so all of these cars are highly valued by collectors. Presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1984, the Ferrari 288 GTO is the successor to the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO. It will be recalled that the Ferrari 250 GTO is officially the most expensive car in the world - it was sold at the Sotheby’s auction in 2018 for an incredible $ 48.4 million. And no wonder - the Ferrari 250 GTO was designed for racing, has a well-designed 3.0 L V12 engine with 296 hp and a body of extraordinary beauty. And of course it is an extremely rare car - only 36 units of this car were produced. Going back to the Ferrari 288 GTO - from the outside it wasn’t a very exclusive car, almost the same as the Ferrari 308 GTB. However, the GTO was much lighter - the wings were made of fiberglass composite, the doors were made of aluminum, and the roof was made of carbon fiber. The main advantage of the car is the excellent 2.9 L V8 engine with two turbines developed at 400 hp. The 288 GTO can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (97 km / h) in 4.8 seconds, from 0 to 125 miles per hour (201 km / h) in 15 seconds, and has a top speed of 304 km / h. At one time, it was one of the fastest serial cars in the world. Although the 288 GTO focused on sportiness, it still housed a luxurious cabin with a suede-covered instrument panel, leather seats, and air conditioning, power windows and audio equipment were also available. Only 272 Ferrari 288 GTO units were produced. They were all painted red and only one prototype was yellow.
