The new Coupe got a whole new design, a new V6 engine and got bigger. The Standard and GT V6 models were offered with standard front airbags and with optional ABS brakes. The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine retained 138 hp (103 kW), while the GT version received new 2.7-liter V6 engines with 172 hp (128 kW) from the Hyundai Sonata and Santa Fe models. The new design has been rated by critics as quite interesting, somewhat reminiscent of a Ferrari 456.
