The Jeep Patriot is a small SUV. In the range of Jeep models, it stands between the Compass and Cherokee models. It is the cheapest of the Jeep and the cheapest SUV in the class in North America. The Patriot and Compass are both manufactured on the DaimlerChrysler / GS platform. These vehicles are segregated and subject to different marketing: The Patriot is a traditional four-door Jeep van similar to the Cherokee, while the Jeep Compass is a luxury crossover with off-road features and capable of driving on rough roads in bad weather unlike competitors Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix.
