The Lexus SC Series is geared towards driver-loving luxury, sportiness and style. The SC engine is assembled at the front, driven by rear wheels, and can accommodate 4 passengers inside. The car is primarily designed to compete with luxury Mercedes-Benz and Acura coupe cars. It was an almost revolutionary design car - 3D was used instead of the traditional 2D design method during body design. As described by one of the project managers, Denis Campbell and Erwin Lui, the result is a car that is based on “emotions and feelings” rather than linear aesthetics. The coupe’s body has got expressive curved, aerodynamic (air resistance coefficient only 0.31) lines and still doesn’t look outdated to this day. Some critics thought the Lexus Coupe car was too distinctive compared to other angled cars of the time. As it turned out later, this design greatly influenced subsequent projects. Drivers fell in love with this luxury car with great interior ergonomics, even though it wasn’t a very powerful car. Motor Trend magazine selected the SC model as the 1992 Imported Car of the Year in the United States.
It was the first luxury Lexus coupe car.
