The Maserati Coupé and Spyder are GT-class sports cars manufactured by Italian carmaker Maserati from 2002 to 2007, when the GranTurismo model was replaced. The Maserati Coupé is a true four-seater that comfortably seats two adults in the rear seats, while the convertible has only two seats. Both models are based on the 3200 GT model. The new Coupé and Spyder are also called the 4200 GT because they have a 4.2 L engine (the older model had a 3.2 L engine). With the appearance of the Sulig Spyder model, Maserati returned to the North American market after an 11-year hiatus. This car was immediately voted the best GT class car of 2001. The Coupé and Spyder were designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro ItalDesign. Both models feature a 4244 cc engine developed by Ferrari / Maserati that develops 390 hp (290 kW) / 7000 rpm and 451 Nm / 4500 rpm of torque. The most significant changes in the engine compartment are the increase in volume from 3.2 to 4.2 L and the fact that the engine is now atmospheric rather than turbo (Maserati has used turbo engines for the past 20 years). This is because the new engine is based on a Ferrari unit.
