In 2009, Mazda introduced the new 3 model, which has a completely new design for both exterior and interior. The new design is clearly similar to its bigger brother Mazda 6. The new model is wider, longer and lighter than its predecessor and has the same 148 horsepower (110 kW) 2.0 L engine as well as a new 167 horsepower (125 kW) 2.5 L engine borrowed from the second-generation Mazda6, which replaced the old 2.3L engine. In the European market, the Mazda 3 will have i-stop technology, which will save up to 30% fuel (more than hybrid models). This technology shuts off the engine every time the car comes to a complete stop, then pressing the accelerator starts the engine quickly and the car can continue its journey without the driver noticing these processes almost unnoticed. Like the previous generation, the Mazda 3 is available in hatchback and sedan variants.
