In designing the new SUV, Mazda has clearly borrowed design ideas from the sporty Mazda MX-5 and RX-8. The result is an SUV that not only looks but also behaves like a sports car. And it's not bad in these times of dynamic worship, and it's a perfect fit for Mazda's Zoom-Zoom philosophy. The CX-7 is a mid-size SUV, the first SUV since Mazda Navajo ceased production in 1994. The car competes directly with the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue and Honda CR-V. The CX-7 got a whole new platform instead of being built on the Ford / Mazda CD3 platform used by the larger Mazda CX-9 / Ford Edge / Lincoln MKX and Mazda6 model. The car uses a Mazda MPV front suspension and a rear one taken from the Mazda5. The most powerful 2.3 L turbo engine is taken from the Mazda MPV. Its impressive power transmission is transmitted by the gearbox to the front or all four wheels, depending on driving conditions and needs - again demonstrating the sporty ambitions of this car. The CX-7 currently stands in the Mazda range between the Tribute and CX-9 models. The SUV has all four cooled disc brakes with standard ABS, stability control and traction control systems. In safety tests, the CX-7 received a five-star rating in the case of a frontal impact.
