The MPV was upgraded in 2000 and produced on the LW platform like the 626 model. The MPV is now front-wheel drive and offers more typical minivan comfort, as well as two sliding side doors. The car also has a straight row of seats that can be folded to a flat floor. The MPV was initially powered by a Mazda 2.5 L V6 engine, which was considered a little too weak (the same engine is used by Ford as well). The MPV was later upgraded to get a more powerful 3.0 L V6 200 hp engine.
