Mercedes-Benz CLA Class, 2019 - present
The Mercedes-Benz CLA model is a prime example of how evolving car models create niche markets. It will be recalled that the first-generation CLA, introduced in 2013, was developed on the basis of a Class A Mercedes to meet the growing need of Western European urban residents to have a not-too-expensive, stylish, compact sedan. This is unusual for us in Lithuania, because with us in a spacious country where old cars are still popular, it is not a problem to buy a sedan of any size and luxury you want. It would seem that the popularity of the CLA model shows that people are increasingly liking compact cars. However, the dimensions of this car are more similar to the more solid C-Class Mercedes than to the A-Class. This means that buyers of this car will most likely buy it not because of its compactness but because of its stylish looks. In this way, in parallel with the cars of the "conventional" design, such as the C, E class, the stylish coupe-style four-seater sedans such as the CLA or CLS are gaining in popularity. This creates a new market segment that is becoming increasingly popular. The new CLA has a wider track width, is wider than the Class A model. Like the old CLA, this one has one of the best coefficients of air resistance among all cars currently in production. The interior of the new model is identical to the Class A model - the instrument panel is divided into two horizontal parts - the lower part is visually separated from the main instrument panel body and creates the impression of "floating". Appropriate interior lighting is used to enhance this effect. In addition, it is possible to order an "energizing" package that optimizes the car's interior according to the owner's mood. This system, in communication with the smartwatch, knows the driver's condition - for example, how well he slept and what his stress level is measured by heart rate parameters. Based on these data, the car will adjust the cabin temperature, lighting, massage functions and audio system to ensure maximum well-being of the driver. Cars are fast becoming smart and one can only wonder how much they will know about their owners.
