The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class is a medium-sized rear-wheel drive coupe or convertible. The car is built on a W203 C-Class base with diesel and petrol engines from four-cylinder (CLK200) to eight-cylinder (CLK500 and CLK63AMG). The CLK is designed to fill the mid-size luxury coupe and convertible market. It is the only Mercedes-Benz convertible with 4 seats. Its direct competitors are the Volvo C70 and Lexus SC430, although Mercedes is produced with much larger engines. The CLK is also ranked somewhere in the middle between the BMW 3 Series Coupé / Convertible and the BMW 6 Series Coupé / Convertible. The most powerful variant - the CLK63 AMG has a 6.2 L V8 engine with 481 hp (354 kW) and 630 Nm of torque and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds. The CLK63 has 31% more power and 23% more torque compared to its predecessor. This CLK63 was used as a safety car in the 2006 and 2007 Formula 1 championships.
