The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a mid-size SUV with good off-road capability and stands below the larger G but above the GLK Class. The M-Class has become a commercial success not only in Europe but also in the United States. This SUV became the first luxury SUV to have stability control. This system is now highly valued, and research has shown it reduces the probability of an accident by as much as 30 percent. In addition, the M-Class had front and side airbags, all of which, together with Mercedes' solid frame, earned the car the highest safety ratings in crash tests. However, owners often complain about the quality of car assembly. The M-Class was named the 1998 SUV by Motor Trend magazine. The car appeared in Steven Spielberg's The Lost World: Jurassic Park and has been used by the Pope since 2002.
