The second generation Eclipse has acquired a completely new exterior and interior design. The car has become much rounder, in keeping with its name. In 1996, a convertible called the Spyder was also introduced. As in the case of the first generation, a similar Eagle Talon model was produced in parallel, but the Eagle brand itself was discontinued in 1998. The turbo engines became more powerful at 210 hp compared to the previous 195 hp. Eclipse engines remained gasoline, 4-cylinder, atmospheric or turbo and mounted transversely. All engines have iron blocks with an aluminum cylinder head and a balancing shaft for smoother engine performance. The 1995-1999 turbo engines have an increased compression ratio to 8.5: 1 (formerly 7.8: 1) and a smaller turbine. This was done to reduce the unwanted turbo pit. The car has been and continues to be a favorite with development and tuning enthusiasts for its turbo engines and attractive exterior design.
