The 200SX S13 or Silvia was hugely popular in Japan. The Silvia name was used in the JDM market, and European models were known as the 200SX (S13 version). The S13 had folding headlights, which was very fashionable at the time. A convertible was also produced, but it was not popular, perhaps because of its high price or higher weight. The S13 was one of Nissan’s first to use a multi-link rear suspension, it also had for the first time in Nissan models an all-four-wheel drive system known as the HICAS-II. The S13 was known for its sharp handling characteristics (thanks to the MacPherson strut front suspension and rear linkage) and its relatively light weight, but was criticized for its extremely high power. The Nissan KA24E engine was reliable, but it was a heavy iron block and the power output was relatively low. However, many drivers praised him for his fun driving qualities and he was often seen in drift races.
