The new Maxima debuted at the 2008 New York International Auto Show. The car is built on the Nissan D platform, which is also used by the fourth-generation Nissan Altima and the second-generation Nissan Murano. The design and interior of the car are somewhat similar to the Infiniti G and Infiniti M models, and the headlights are almost identical to the Nissan 370Z. The Maxima has a VQ35DE engine with 290 hp (220 kW), spinning from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds. The upgraded Xtronic transmission with steering levers behind the steering wheel is the only option offered, and a diesel version of the Maxima is expected to be available in 2010.
