The name "Primera" means "first class" or "best" in Spanish. This car has a traditional front-wheel drive chassis and a five-speed manual transmission, and versions were also produced with four-speed automatic transmissions and all four-wheel drive. This car is powered by a 1.6-liter engine with carburetor and 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter petrol engines with injection. In 1992, a 2.0-liter diesel variant also appeared in production. There were several body types: sedan, five-door hatchback, as well as station wagons, which were manufactured only in Japan. The production of this Nissan model was targeted at the European market, so the design of the car was extremely "European" and welcomed.
