Porsche 918 Spyder, 2013 - 2015
The Porsche 918 Spyder is a sports car with a center-mounted V8 engine. At the heart of this great car is a just 4.6-liter engine with 608 hp (453 kW) built on the engine of the sporty Porsche car (RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype). However, next to this eight-cylinder engine are fitted two additional electric motors (one driving the front wheels and the other connected to the rear-wheel drive system) with a total power of 279 hp (208 kW). Working together, they create as many as 887 hp. The car accelerates to 100 km / h in an impressive 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of more than 340 kilometers per hour. The 918 Spyder completes one lap of the Nurburgring faster than the Porsche Carerra GT supercar. The 918 Spyder has 4 different driving modes: E-Drive mode uses only a third electric motor and allows a distance of 26 km, the other three modes (Hybrid, Sport and Race) allow the use of both internal combustion and electric motors with different levels of economy and dynamism. The car’s chassis is made of carbon fiber, and magnesium and aluminum alloys are also used, which has allowed the weight of the 918 Spyder to be reduced to 1640 kilograms. Fuel consumption is simply staggering. According to Porsche, the car emits only 79 g / km of CO2 and consumes an average of only 3 l / 100 km of fuel. There is also a special racing version 918 RSR, which uses a KERS system tested on a Porsche 911 GT3 R instead of a simple battery - a battery with a crank. This solution has already made its mark on the GT3 R in the Le Mans 24 Hours. The 918 RSR engine has a power output of 563 hp and spins the rear wheels. Meanwhile, each of the front wheels is provided with a 102 hp electric motor, which is powered by the said KERS system. The intelligent Torque Vectoring power transmission system measures wheel grip and turns on electric motors when needed. The combined performance of all engines guarantees 767 hp on all four wheels combined. The excellent fuel consumption of this car must also bring success in long-distance racing. It is not for nothing that the last year in Le Mane has been filled with diesel-powered prototypes. This Porsche will definitely put them in serious competition. Will the situation change?
