The Seat Leon is a compact family car built with a hatchback body on the WV Golf Mk4 platform. Leon shares many mechanical components with the VW Golf, Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia. The design of the new model created by Giorgetto Giugiaro in the Italdesign studio has become much rounder than previous versions. Leon was the best-selling Seat car, marketed as a sportier but cheaper version of the VW Golf. To enhance the impression of sportiness, the car has a more aggressive front, stiffer suspension to improve handling, and more expensive versions also have more powerful engines. In some countries, the Leon was produced and borrowed from VW Golf with a four-wheel drive 4motion system. Leon’s sales were relatively good, but not far off the popular VW Golf.
In 2003, the Seat Leon became the Car of the Year in Portugal.
