The new Legacy embodies its distinctive features - an all-wheel drive system, fast-paced lines, sportiness and functionality go hand in hand. The new model is produced with sedan and station wagon bodies with excellent safety features, versatility and reliability. The car is perfectly suited for countries with harsher climates. The Legacy is also well-managed, incorporating technology tested in World Rally Championship cars. Lightweight and compact horizontal opposition motors, due to their design, work smoother and more efficiently than motors with single-row or V-shaped cylinders. The Boxer 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0-liter engines feature power but lack economy. In 2008, the first Subaru diesel engine was introduced in this model, which is also the first boxer-type diesel engine in the world. The car has few disadvantages - the already mentioned poor economy and relatively little space for rear passengers.
In 2003/2004, the Subaru Legacy became the Japanese Car of the Year. This was Subaru's first title in this competition.
