The fourth-generation Subaru Outback was unveiled at the 2009 New York Auto Show fifteen years after the first Outback appeared at the same New York Auto Show. The car has a completely new exterior and interior design, along with the abandonment of a number of traditional Subaru elements - such as the four-door bare design (this tradition has continued since the Subaru Leone model of the early 1970s), and the rear struts will no longer look visually of glass. The large double sunroof, a bumper painted in a different color, was also abandoned, but the car became even more practical: inside space increased by 8 per cent, rear and front overhangs shortened, car ground clearance increased to 220 mm, making the Outback even more like a crossover. The front suspension is a McPherson-type engine, the rear is a multi-lever, and under the hood a series of Boxer-type engines, including a 170-liter 2.5-liter unit, while the most dynamic 3.6-liter has 256 hp and 350 Nm of torque.
