Toyota Celica, 1985 - 1989
In 1985, Toyota introduced the fourth generation Celica. The new model differed significantly from its predecessors - not only in its aerodynamic rounded design, but this time the car had front but not front wheels. In this way, the Celica model was separated from the larger, more powerful and rear-wheel-drive Toyota Supra model. The Toyota Celica was equipped with four-cylinder extremely powerful yet economical engines and targeted a wider audience. In 1986, the most powerful version of the GT-Four (ST165) was introduced with a permanent four-wheel drive system and a turbo engine. This GT-S 2.0 L engine generated 190 hp (142 kW) of power and 258 Nm of torque. The Toyota Celica GT-Four made its debut at the WRC World Rally Championship in 1988 on the Tour de Corse stage, where it took an honorable 6th place. The first victory in the rally arenas was achieved in the same year in the Cyprus Rally, and the first victory in the 1989 WRC Championship in the Australian stage. Although this Celica did not reach the heights of the rally itself, it was a good start and a good prelude to the fifth and sixth generation Celica who later won the WRC championships.
