It seems that the Opel brand is finally really starting to climb out of the “no image” frames and bake great cars one after another. Opel Insignia, Opel Astra models have impressed many - wondering how the all-new Meriva will fare? At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, Opel unveiled a new generation of the Meriva. The car is not only an example of attractive design, but also an example of extremely great functionality. First of all, the really beautiful design of the car, which is reminiscent of the Opel Insignia and Opel Astra, which have been recognized as the European Car of the Year - sharp and harmonious body features, large headlights, exclusive intersecting side window line, which not only looks original but is also practical the rear seat passengers are given 50 mm more window space. Although the new Meriva has only slightly increased in length and increased the width by just over 80mm, the car looks bigger and more solid. Thanks to the higher sitting position, the view in all directions is better. The biggest news about this car is the Flexdoors side door system seen in the concept model. The side front doors of the new Meriva are normal, and the side rear doors open in the opposite direction than usual. A similar system has already been seen in some other models, such as the Mazda RX-8, Mini Clubman or Rolls Royce Ghost, but Opel's solution differs in that the front and rear doors can be opened separately, and in these cars the rear doors can only be opened when the front is opened. The advantage of such a system is that in tight parking lots it will be easier to get on the rear seats, and when getting out of the car it will be easier for parents to control the children as they will not be hindered by the side doors. Opel engineers also say that such a system has no effect on the car's side impact resistance and rigidity. In the cabin we find a panel of excellent quality and design - steering wheel, chrome trim, heater or air conditioning controls look from the more solid Insignia and that's really good. The Meriva also features large and comfortable Insignia seats, as well as an innovative central tunnel that slides trunks, cup holders and a central armrest on aluminum rails. This system, called FlexRail, allows single-seater passengers to easily change the layout and size of the various tanks in the machine. Another system, FlexSpace, makes it easy to reposition the rear seats, increasing legroom or luggage space. Although the rear seats are large enough to seat three adults next to each other, if there is not enough space, these seats can be slid sideways and back and forth. In addition, the rear seats can be folded into a flat surface. Underneath the superb body, the Meriva is a truly scaled-down version of the Zafira with just five seats. The car has MacPherson type front and rear torsion suspension, electro-hydraulic power steering. Buyers of the new Opel Meriva will be able to choose from six available turbocharged 75-140 hp engines. A sporty version of the Meriva with a petrol SRi engine will also be produced. It will be the first Opel to have a stop-start system to minimize fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. According to the manufacturer, the car's fuel consumption and carbon emissions have been reduced by 15 percent compared to its predecessor. So, a cool representative of the mini monovolume class appeared on the market - competitors follow!
This is the first Opel to have a stop-start system to minimize fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
