Volkswagen Golf, 2019 - present
The eighth generation Golf is made using the MQB version of the modular platform. This platform was first used in the production of the 2012 Golf, and was later based on Volkswagen models such as the Passat, the Tiguan SUV and the T-Roc. The new model looks lower, more elongated and dynamic, but its compact dimensions have not changed: 4284 mm in length, 1789 mm in width, 1456 mm in height and 2636 mm in wheelbase. The eighth-generation Golf will only be produced with a five-door body. The new Golf's design has become more dynamic, the charismatic front looks fresh and new. Traditional headlights on all models have been replaced by LED technology, making the new light design a distinctive element of the eighth-generation Golf style. In fact, from these angles it will not be so easy to distinguish it from older generations, while the main competitors have changed much more dynamically - both the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic, not to mention the the ever-changing Hyundai, Kia and French competitors.Perhaps the Golf's conservatism is part of the strategy to bring the Volkswagen ID.3 to market. While the ID.3, unlike the Golf, is a more interesting and attractive car, Kogero Volkswagen wants to open up a seriously tarnished reputation introducing a new page n e not only electric cars, but also new names - in order to distance ourselves from the not-so-clean past. So whether Golf is still the segment leader or the written-off model is unclear. Only buyers will be able to post a verdict on the legendary Golf name. Still, the new Golf introduces many innovations - the essence of which is smart technologies that allow the car to be combined with a smart environment. For example, Golf navigation is interactive - when you see a restaurant on the map, the driver will be able to call and reserve a table immediately. Also, the eighth generation Golf will have great driver assistance features. The car is equipped with the Travel Assist system, which will be able to drive, accelerate and brake at speeds of up to 210 km / h without driver intervention. All new-generation Golf will also be able to communicate with external Car2X technology, which will collect information from Cars within a radius of 800 m to warn the driver and other cars of impending obstacles. Sounds great until it turns out that only the eighth generation Golf has such a system so far ... On the road, the car is extremely comfortable, perhaps even the best in the whole segment. It’s also fun to be able to control the level of comfort and sportiness of the engine, gearbox and clearly feel these differences while driving. The interior of the car, unlike the exterior, has been significantly improved - the instrument panel has been combined with the information system screen into one visually integral panel, which sets the Golf apart from other competitors in the class. Here we will find a few physical buttons, the air conditioner is also controlled by touch-sensitive panels. Is it good? We think not - because it is not only inconvenient, but also more distracting from the driving process, which is always wrong, even if the car has some autonomous driving functions.
