The Volkswagen Polo is a small car made with hatchback, sedan and station wagon bodies. The Mk3 Polo 6N appeared in 1995 as a completely new model (on a new chassis) that shares its platform with the Seat Ibiza Mk2. This platform is also used by the Volkswagen Golf Mk3 (these three cars share many units, as well as the entire suspension). Although the Polo’s instrument panel and many mechanical components are the same as in the Ibiza model, the two cars are completely different on the outside. The Polo sedan and station wagon is basically a redesigned version of the Seat Cordoba. These Polos have common body details with the Cordoba, not the Ibiza hatchback.
In 1996, the Volkswagen Polo was voted Irish Car of the Year.

In 1995, the Volkswagen Polo was voted Car of the Year (What Car? Magazine).

In 1997, Polo was named Best Small Class Representative (Auto Express, Which? And Top Gear Magazine).
