A conceptual model called the Iroc was unveiled at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, a prophet of the new Scirocco. Introduced in 2008, the Scirocco can be equipped with three petrol and one diesel engine. The 4-cylinder 1.4-liter TSI with two turbines develops 122 hp (90 kW) or 160 hp (118 kW), a 200 hp (147 kW) 2-liter TSI petrol engine (currently available on Passat, EOS and Jetta models) and a 2.0-liter TDI engine with 140 hp (103 kW) (currently included in the Tiguan model). Three new Scirocco models took part in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, where they achieved great results - they took 11th and 15th place out of more than 200 participants.
The Volkswagen Scirocco is used as a sports car in a ring race. In the 2008 24-hour Nürburgring, the two Scirocco finished 11th (driven by Hans Joachim Stuck) and 15th (driven by Carlos Sainz) among 200 competitors, many of whom were much more powerful cars.

Volkswagen Scirocco participates in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and is not fueled with petrol, but with biofuels.
