The Volkswagen Touareg is a mid-size sporty SUV. This is just the second Volkswagen SUV in the company's history. The Touareg was a joint project developed with Porsche, which also had plans to start production of the luxury SUV. The car was supposed to be sporty, but also off-road. The result of the joint project is the 7L platform and the Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg models. However, both cars have significant differences in equipment, technical solutions and design. The Touareg has a standard all-wheel drive system, and the compressed air-operated suspension can adjust the car’s ground clearance height. The SUV was also produced with the impressive W12 engine, which is able to accelerate a considerable SUV from 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.9 seconds. The car is highly valued for its excellent combination of luxury and SUV features.
In 2003 (Car and Driver magazine) and 2004 (Motor Trend magazine), the Volkswagen Touareg was voted the best luxury SUV.

Since 2003, Volkswagen has been participating in the Dakar Rally with a heavily modified diesel-powered Touareg model. During this time, the car proved to be extremely reliable and successful. In 2009, the first victory was achieved with Giniel de Villiers behind the wheel, the second was finished by Mark Miller also with Touareg. In the following 2010 and 2011, Volkswagen Touareg cars celebrated their victories again.

The Volkswagen Touareg with V10 engine sets a world weight towing record - the car managed to overtake the Boeing 747, the largest passenger aircraft of the time.
