Mercedes-Benz CL Class, 1993 - 2000

The Mercedes-Benz CL (Comfort Leicht in German) is a huge luxury GT-class coupe. The car is built on the base of the S-Class sedan (with a slightly shorter base, and a smaller choice of engines), so the two classes are produced in parallel. CL’s closest competitor was the BMW 8 Series Coupé, but the key difference was that BMW had a 2 + 2 seating system with tight rear seats, while Mercedes has spacious rear seats, thus offering the best combination of power and luxury with a coupe body. The coupe built on the W140 chassis had two engines - 5 L V8 and 6 L V12, which were variously called - initially 500 SEC and 600 SEC, later CL500 and CL600.
