Škoda Kodiaq is such a common car on our streets that it is easy to forget that it was introduced only in 2016 and now we have only received the second generation model. This large SUV has won numerous international awards and has sold more than 840,000 units, making it one of the most popular SUVs in its segment in Europe. Looking at the new Kodiaq, it's clear that Škoda has taken an evolutionary approach to the car's design, as is often the case with Czech cars. Škoda says that this Kodiaq introduces the first elements of the Modern Solid design language that will be characteristic of Škoda cars of the near future. Despite the innovations, the front part of the SUV is easily recognizable as a Kodiaq, the rear part also did not deviate from the stylistics of its predecessor, only the rear lights were timidly extended across the entire width of the car. Overall, it's hard to see hints of a new design style - what we can see is that there are now fewer sharp trapezoidal shapes. At 4,758 mm long, the car is 61 mm longer than its predecessor, but the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,791 mm. That said, the car has not been fundamentally changed, but there will now be more space in the third row of seats and in the trunk. Five-seat versions now have a 910-litre boot, with the second row of seats folded down to 2,105 litres, 40 liters more than the first-generation Kodiaq. Meanwhile, the seven-seater has 340 liters of boot space, and when the third row of seats are folded down, the space increases to 845 liters - 70 liters more than the old Kodiaq. The maximum capacity of the luggage compartment reaches 2035 liters. By the way, the plug-in hybrid version is available only with five seats, and the battery installed in it reduces the trunk capacity to 745 liters. The larger body did not prevent Skoda from improving the Kodiaq's aerodynamic efficiency - now the drag coefficient is only 0.282. Škoda has expanded the range of SUV engines to include "mild-hybrid" gasoline and regular diesel versions, as well as a plug-in hybrid system for the first time in the history of the model. The choice starts with a 1.5 L TSI petrol engine that develops 148 hp and uses 48 V mild-hybrid technology, and there are also three 2.0 L variants: a 201 hp petrol also with mild-hybrid technology and switchable cylinder and two diesel engines with 148 hp and 190 hp power. The most powerful petrol and diesel variants are available with four-wheel drive. Regardless of engine choice, all Kodiaqs now come with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the manual gearbox gone. It is good that the range of engines also includes a plug-in hybrid PHEV version with a basic 1.5 L 148 HP gasoline engine. Together with the electric motor, this power plant reaches a total power of 201 hp. The manufacturer claims that the electric motor-only range is "more than 100 km".
