The S8 is built on the base of the A8 and is powered by a new aluminum 5.2 L FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) V10 engine with two 90 ° angled cylinder blocks and 40 valves. The engine is atmospheric and has a variable valve timing system. This petrol engine is taken from the Lamborghini Gallardo (5.0 liter V10) with only a slight increase in displacement to produce more torque at low revs. It is more suitable for larger and heavier Audi. The car has 331 kW (450 hp) / 7000 rpm and 540 Nm / 3500 rpm of torque. As a result, the high S8 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds. The S8 therefore competes with the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG (powered by a 6.0 L V12 twin-turbine engine, 612 hp, 1000 Nm), the Mercedes-Benz S600 (powered by a 5.5 L V12 twin-turbocharged engine, 517 hp, 830 Nm), the BMW 760Li ( powered by an atmospheric 6.0 L V12 engine, 445 hp, 600 Nm) and with the Audi A8L W12 itself. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h. The car has a permanent all-wheel drive system quattro, which gives 40% of power to the front axle and 60% to the rear. The S8, like the A8, has a multi-link suspension at both the rear and front, and the suspension is sportier-matched with the more efficient all four cooled disc brakes. On the outside, there are few differences from the usual A8, but they subtly emphasize the special variety of the S8. The large grille at the front features the S8 badge, the front wing has a V10 badge, silver side mirrors, the rear boot lid has a delicate spoiler and four oval exhaust pipes at the bottom. The interior features an MMI color screen, two-color leather seats and a luxurious 1000 W Bang & Olufsen sound system.
